Matt Birkbeck's "Deconstructing Sammy" book

Our thanks to Matt Birkbeck for joining us again to talk about his book, one of the most interesting (and sad) looks at a lost legacy, ever. It was interesting to get his take on the death of Altovise Davis, and the audio is up on the usPod at Tommie & The Bartender dot com. Check out Matt's page: http://www.mattbirkbeck.com.

The discussion has already started for "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao", the Tommie's Book Club selection for March...

New blog up at WAOR.COM. Cramming three together, because the other entries I'd written for March have vanished from the server, and I.T. can't find them.

Join the discussion, join the book club online, and make plans to join us on the last Wednesday of the month at Hammes for the discussion...where you could win an autographed copy of the book, and win your 2009 The Shirt before it goes on sale in April.

Watchmen Graphic Novel

We've talked about it all morning, in preparation of the movie in theatres today. But the best way to experience Watchmen isn't on the screen this weekend: it's spending some time with the Alan Moore's original words...and Dave Gibbons' original art. And the ending they DIDN'T use for the movie.

The Watchmen Graphic Novel is real literature, on a number of lists of the greatest works of fiction. It's an incredibly interwoven story in 12 parts that speaks to both the grandest international scale...and the smallest pieces of human existence. And if you've never read it...you're missing out.

Click here. I'm not sure where I stand on this book right now. Join the conversation.

And remember: despite what the bookmarks say, the February discussion will be Thursday the 26th, not Wednesday the 25th.

It will still take place at the Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore in The Eck Center on campus. And love or hate the book (or be confused by it)...it should be a lively discussion...
